Blue Is The Warmest Colour tells the story of Adèle, a high school student who is beginning to discover herself as a woman. She dates men but doesn’t find sexual satisfaction with them, and is rejected by a female friend she desires. She dreams of something more. Adèle meets Emma, a free-spirited girl whom Adèle’s friends reject because of her sexuality, and the association starts to reject Adèle too. Her relationship with Emma develops into more than just friends as she becomes the only person with whom Adèle can truly express herself. Together, Adèle and Emma explore societal acceptance, sexuality, and the emotional spectrum of their mature relationship.
